About the Department

Department of Social Work was set up in the year 2001. Since inception, the Department has been promoting not only classroom studies but also practical learning to develop critical thinking among students. The Department offers Programmes at Master’s, Graduate and Certificate level. Here, the learners not just get a chance to acquaint themselves with the various social agency settings in Urban India but also get a chance to explore Rural Lifestyle. This helps widening their understanding about society and social problems in India. Guest lectures, Seminars and Workshops are inseparable components of Social Work learning. The courses are designed to help the students imbibe knowledge and apply them in real life scenarios. One of the core thrust area at Master’s level is Research. Students are encouraged and guided to carry out Dissertation in their final year. Other essentials of the course include Exposure Visits, Internship, Community Work, Case Work, Group Work, Mini Survey, Summer Placement, Study Tour and Block Placement. The curriculum of the courses offered is reviewed and revised regularly, keeping in view the need of the hour. Along with academics, the Department is also vibrant with events like organizing health camps, blood donation drives, conducting street plays, rallies, students’ meet, observing socially relevant days etc.

    1. Dear student, Social Work requires a lot of skill and patience. Depending on your future prospects you should focus on your skill set. As for a beginner, be alert, have good observation, networking and documentation. Also critical and analytical thinking is needed for being a change agent. All the best!
